Directions

Salento is a Colombian municipality in the department of Quindio. It is perhaps the most important municipality for tourism in this region. It is considered one of the most beautiful towns because of its beautiful and preserved architecture, a legacy of the Antioquian colonization, its square and old colorful houses in wattle and daub and mud walls, the kindness and gentleness of its inhabitants and the artistic street demonstrations.

In its rural area is the imposing Cocora Valley, known as the cradle of the national tree “La Palma de Cera” and entrance to the National Natural Park Los Nevados, all together generates a contagious atmosphere of peace and well-being that permeates immediately upon arrival.

With an average temperature of 18 degrees Celsius and an altitude of 1800 meters above sea level.

Lake Calima is one of the largest reservoirs in America located in the municipality of Darien in Valle del Cauca on the shores of the Pacific Ocean just 86 kilometers from the city of Cali, is known for the great variety of fauna and flora, attractions and activities within the lake.

With an average temperature of 19 degrees Celsius and an altitude of 1,500 meters above sea level.

Day 1 Salento – Sevilla 89 kilometers

We leave the Salento Trekking office located in the urban area, towards the village of Palestina in Salento Quindio, it is an unpaved road of 13 kilometers.  During this journey we begin to connect with nature finding beautiful landscapes, coffee farms just 4 kilometers away, coffee plantations, banana, banana and pine trees, we cross the rivers Navarco and Quindio, and a tunnel of the old train. Afterwards, when we leave the highway we will travel 6 kilometers, where we will have 2.5 kilometers uphill, this road leads us to Calarcá Quindío, one of the towns with more architectural richness of the Antioquian colonization. We will also have the opportunity to visit the town of Córdoba, and the headquarters of the national meeting of writers for being the cradle of poets; after crossing this town (3 kilometers) we take the La Huerta road towards the town of Cordoba, during this route we will find spectacular coffee crops in a flat route, after this we will have a descent at 25 kilometers and a climb of 1 kilometer in the middle of macadamia crops, We continue flat and at kilometer 32 we will have a climb of 4 % of 5 kilometers known as the ascent to the bear, in this route we cross the Barragán river, a descent begins and then we will arrive to the main road of Córdoba where we will have the possibility to visit the main square and have a delicious coffee, We will recharge energy to continue with our way to Caicedonia located in the department of Valle del Cauca, in this journey we will cross the Quindio river and from this point we will begin to see a variation in the ecosystem, as it is flatter and a warmer climate, there we will take a typical lunch of the area and continue our way to the municipality of Sevilla Valle (17 kilometers) considered the balcony of the department of the valley, as it is located in one of the highest points of the department and therefore has a beautiful view of the rest of the municipalities of the department, on this route we can see citrus plantations such as pineapple, orange, lemon, tangerine. After this, we will begin a 6 km ascent to reach the city of Seville where we will spend the night.

Day 2 Sevilla – Calima Lake

This day we start at 7 in the morning we descend 19 kilometers by paved road, we enter the municipality of Galicia Valle where we can refresh ourselves to continue the route by an unpaved road for 17 kilometers to bugalagrande and there we can observe several municipalities of the department and sugar cane plantations, we will pass by one of the monuments of the virgin of this municipality and descend 3 kilometers, then a little flat to reach bugalagrande where we can make a small tour of the town to continue by the pedestrian bridge and then make the crossing of the river Cauca the second most important river in the country, in a small boat, after this we will start again the bike ride on paved road for 16 kilometers by the Panamerican highway to reach cold river and start a steep climb of 22 kilometers to fenicia by the western mountain range, this municipality is known for the ecological tours, its beautiful viewpoints and its mild climate, where we will have lunch. After lunch, we continue with the gravel tour for 22 kilometers to the municipality of Darien, place where the Calima Lake is located, our final destination.
